Mexico Group Trip

I’m super excited to finally announce my first ever Janets Journeys group trip to MEXICO! Mexico is a colourful, vibrant, and diverse country wealthy in history and incredible cuisine….And I plan to show you the best of it, while making life long friends along the way!

This trip is going to show you the many faces of Mexico, ranging from bustling cities to chill beach vibes. Come with me for an authentic Mexican experience and enjoy the epic adventure!

DATES:

Group 1: FULLY BOOKED

Group 2:  13th – 26th November 2022 (SOLD OUT!)

*Group 2 itinerary does not include the Day of the Dead.

Day 1: Arrival

The group will fly into Mexico city airport, and our tour guide will welcome you at the airport and bring you to the hotel. Depending on your arrival time we’ll head out for some drinks and of course eat some delicious Mexico street food!

Day 2: Mexico City

On our first proper day in Mexico City, will do a fun bus tour and go up to Torre Latinoamericana to the highest view point in town, finish the day at Plaza Garibaldi, where the Mariachi Bands gather. 

Our guide, the amazing Sara, is actually from Mexico City and knows all the best places to visit and things to do here. She’s gonna make sure we see the best, and of course eat our way around the city too!

Day 3: Mexico City

Today we’ll spend another full day getting to know one of the coolest cities in the world! We will visit Coyoacan Area (which includes Frida Kahlo’s House) and Xochimilco, taking a trajinera (which is a kind of boat) to ride through the canals with a mariachi band and traditional Mexican snacks or Teotihuacan (one of the most important archaeological sites on Mexico). 

And beers, there will of course be beers!

Mexico City Activities:

  • Xochimilco Boat & Doll Island 
  • Casa Azul (Frida Kahlo) 
  • Teotihuacan Pyramids (time permitting)

Day 4: Mexico City to Oaxaca

We will be traveling from Mexico City to Oaxaca and stop in the the colourful city of Puebla for lunch on the way.

It’s one of Mexicos famous “pueblo magicos”, or “magic towns” and is probably one of the prettiest cities in Mexico. You can watch my video about my trip there to see what I’m talking about:

Day 5: Oaxaca 

On day 5, we will spend the day doing a Oaxaca City Tour (including a mezcal tasting tour!) and we’ll visit a cemetery at night as the ritual for the Day of the Dead begins.

Day 6: Oaxaca.

Today is the Day of the Dead! We will experience all of the rituals and look at the tapestries made for the day (made with flowers). We’ll have our faces painted and make sure we’re wearing beautiful Day of the Dead costumes / outfits.

We’ll get to Oaxaca City in time for sunset, and head out for some traditional cuisine and of course experience Oaxaca nightlife which is very famous. Many of the bars and restaurants are located high up on roof tops over looking the historic city centre and it’s a HUGE party / festival atmosphere around Day of the Dead.

Day 7: Oaxaca.

Today we will get back on the bus to visit the famous Hierve el Agua (petrified waterfalls) and Montealbán (ruins). One of the most popular day trips from Oaxaca city, and fun place to go swimming and see the authentic Oaxaca countryside.

At the end of the day, we will have an overnight drive to San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas.

Day 8: Chiapas

Day 8 you’ll be introduced to the beautiful Mexican region of Chiapas and the magical city of San Cristobal de las Casas. One of my favourite places in Mexico, and firm favourite amoung intrepid travellers and backpackers.

We will explore the city and travel to small towns and villages nearby to meet indigenous communities with very unique cultural and religious practices.

Day 9: Chiapas

We will take a trip to the stunning Chiflón waterfalls and Montebello Lagoons, and then head back to San Cristobal.

This will be a full day trip, full of adventure, swimming, amazing viewpoints and photo spots. These lakes and waterfalls are SPECTACULAR!

Day 10: San Cristobal

Today we travel from, San Cristobal – Tuxtla – Cancún – Holbox. It’s a full travel day and will include a bus ride, a domestic flight and a ferry to the Island of Holbox in the Caribbean!

Day 11: Holbox

Now we swap city life for beach vibes! We will spend our time on this tropical island enjoying the crystal blue water and laid back lifestyle. We will head on a boat tour to explore further. This is one of the top backpacker ho spots in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsuala and is PARADISE!

Lots of dow time to chill in the beach, drink cocktails, lounge in a hammock etc.

Day 12: Tulum

On day 9, we arrive at the famous Tulum! Another beautiful coastline where we continue the beach vibes and party! Tulum is well known for its many cenotes, so pack your swimmers and your camera because these are a beauty!

We’ll spend the next two days exploring cenotes, eating delicious street food, lazing on Tulum’s most famous beach and maybe visiting some colourful towns nearby.

Day 13: Tulum 

Full day to relax and explore Tulum. All means, transport and activities includes, as always. But also some free time on the beach etc.

Tulum Activities:

  • Tulum beach and ancient ruins
  • Cenotes

Day 14: Cancun Departure

After two weeks of adventuring around Mexico, our trip comes to an end and we will head to Cancun to catch our flight.

Accommodation

Throughout our stay in Mexico, we will stay in a mixture of high-end funky hostels, cute boutique hotels and some more boujieer style hotels! Bookings are been finalized as we speak so the full hotel list will be available soon but I assure you you’re gonna love every single place!

Price is based on 2 people sharing a twin room. You’ll be moved around to pair up with a new friend every couple of nights. 🙂

Who’s leading this trip?

This trip will be lead by Janet (of course!) and one of her best friends, Sara, who happens to be Mexican! Sara and Janet lived together for a few years in Ireland, so Sara knows how to have a good time, knows the Irish sense of humour but is also going to be an amazing host in Mexico, showing us all her favourite spots and the best places to eat and drink!

Terms and Conditions

Your deposit is non refundable.

For the balance of your payment, I can refund you the full amount (minus your deposit) up to 8 weeks before the trip begins should you have an emergency / illness / need to cancel. Anything closer than 8 weeks, I cannot refund you.

I suggest you take out travel insurance that covers trip cancellations, that way should something happen like you get Covid, you will get a full payout from your insurance company.
