FAQ & Itinerary Note:

This itinerary, as always, is open to small changes depending on the weather, flights, etc. Fear not, if we have to make any adjustments, it will be to swap something out with an equally, if not better, experience!

I'm ready! How do I book?

Ready for an unforgettable adventure to Everest Base Camp? Click the BOOK NOW button to head to our payment portal and secure your spot with a €750 deposit. The remaining balance will be divided into two equal payments, due 2 and 3 months before departure.

Need a custom payment plan? No problem! Reach out to us, and we’ll create a plan tailored to your needs. Remember, spots are booked on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t wait!

How many people are on the trip?

This trip requires a minimum number of guests to proceed, and this minimum must be met at least 4 months before departure to be guaranteed. If the minimum number of guests is not met by then, a full refund will be issued.

Expect to travel with 6-14 new friends!

Why are deposits non-refundable?

The deposit for your trip is non-refundable due to several important factors. Firstly, when you book a spot, we immediately begin the process of planning and preparing for your journey. This involves engaging staff who work diligently behind the scenes to ensure every aspect of your trip is meticulously organised. These preparations often involve upfront costs that are incurred from the moment your booking is confirmed. Additionally, by requiring a non-refundable deposit, we aim to ensure that all participants are committed to the trip.

We understand that plans can change, which is why we insist all travellers have trip insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances that might affect their ability to participate.

What about my other payments? Are they refundable?

All payments, except your deposit, are fully refundable three months prior to the departure date. After the three-month mark, any payments made are non-refundable. This is because we are usually unable to find a replacement at such short notice, and have contracts in place with our vendors that need to be fulfilled.

Again, we strongly recommend all travellers have travel insurance so that they can refund you should your plans change. At the end of the day, we are a small business, and we want nothing more than to continue showing our guests the world. We hope you understand the importance of adhering strictly to this policy.

What gears should I bring?

We provide sleeping bags, hiking poles, down jackets, and duffel bags to anyone who’d like to borrow them. There are also gear rental shops in Kathmandu where you can rent anything you forgot or didn’t want to invest in.

Local porters will also carry your duffel bag (maximum 10-13kg) ahead to each night’s lodge. You’ll only hike with a daypack (20-30L) carrying essentials like water, snacks, extra layers, camera, and sunscreen. Our guide will advise each morning what’s best to have on hand.

Is there Wi-Fi and electricity along the trek?

Wi-Fi is available at some teahouses for a fee, but can be unreliable so we recommend a SIM card. Electricity is also available for charging devices, but it can cost extra (€1-3 per hour), especially at higher altitudes. We recommend a digital disconnect during the trip, preserving batteries and bringing one or two high quality charging banks.

Can I drink the water?

Tap water is not safe to drink. You will carry a reusable bottle with a filter or purification tablets to treat water from teahouses and streams. How cool will it be to say you drank the glacier water from Everest!

What about altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness is a risk on any high-altitude trek. We’ve built acclimatisation days into the itinerary to help your body adjust gradually. Common symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness, and trouble sleeping. The key is to communicate early if you’re feeling unwell, as it’s always better to be cautious. Stay hydrated (3-4 litres per day), ascend slowly, and avoid alcohol. Many trekkers take Diamox as a preventative measure, so consult your doctor before the trip.

What happens if my flight to/from Lukla is delayed?

Weather delays are common in Lukla. It’s recommended to plan an extra buffer day before your international departure, or at least book it for the last evening to give us some extra time.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, travel insurance is mandatory. It must cover trekking up to 5,600 meters, emergency evacuation (helicopter), and medical expenses. We suggest a few companies upon booking.

How much money will I need for non-included meals, alcohol, and souvenirs?

All meals are included in the itinerary, but you’ll likely want extra snacks for energy during long hiking days. We recommend bringing high-calorie, nutrient-dense snacks from home, such as energy bars, trail mix, beef jerky or biltong, or dark chocolate.

Alcohol is available at some tea houses, though options are limited and prices increase with altitude. Expect to pay around NPR 500-800 (€3.75-€6) for local beer in lower villages, rising to NPR 800-1,200 (€6-€9) higher up. Wine and spirits are rarely available on the trek but can be found in Kathmandu. Keep in mind that alcohol can worsen altitude sickness symptoms, so it’s best avoided until you’re descending.

For souvenirs, Nepal is known for beautiful pashminas, hand-woven textiles, singing bowls, prayer flags, traditional thangka paintings, and handmade jewellery. The markets in Kathmandu and Namche Bazaar offer plenty of options. Budgeting will depend on your personal spending habits, but it’s easy to find unique and meaningful pieces to take home.

Most trekkers budget around €150-250 total for extra snacks from home, trail purchases, drinks, WiFi/charging fees, and souvenirs throughout the trek.

How does tipping work?

To make things smooth and stress-free, we recommend budgeting €150-250 for tipping. This ensures all of our incredible on-the-ground vendors are taken care of, including guides, drivers, meals, and activities that are listed in your itinerary.

For any additional meals or personal expenses not included in the itinerary, you should expect to pay a separate tip. We will guide you on what is appropriate throughout the trip so you feel confident and comfortable.

How physically demanding is the trip?

The trek is considered moderate to challenging. It involves long days of hiking (5-8 hours) and significant altitude gain. While no technical climbing skills are required, a good level of physical fitness and mental determination is essential.

Prior trekking experience is helpful but not mandatory. Beginners can succeed with proper preparation, including physical training and gradual altitude acclimatization.

Not quite there yet? No problem!

We will set up an accountability group for you to join to help you train, and when you book, you get a Three-Phase Training Plan for the next 9 months. We’ll even have some special guests to help coach you through the training process.

Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?

Absolutely! We can accommodate most dietary restrictions. Please inform us of your specific needs in advance so we can ensure your dietary requirements are met.

Meals typically consist of hearty local and Western options like dal bhat (lentil curry), noodles, rice, pasta, soups, and hot drinks.

What if I want my own room?

We believe that rooming is one of the best parts of the experience. It feels a little like adult summer camp and has always been a highlight for our guests, with nothing but positive feedback in the past.

That being said, if you feel that sharing does not suit your travel style, we are happy to discuss the option of a single room supplement. Simply reach out to us at janetsgrouptrips@gmail.com and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What are the health and vaccination requirements?

Vaccinations for hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and tetanus are recommended. Consult your doctor for personalized advice.

Who’s leading the trip?

A JJ leader and the local tour guide will be with you every step of the way.
