Itinerary

Day 1 - Mexico City

¡Bienvenidos a México!

Arrive in one of the world’s most vibrant megacities and transfer to our hotel. Tonight, we’re throwing you straight into the deep end with an evening at Lucha Libre wrestling. Colourful masks, theatrical body slams, and absolutely mental crowd energy.

Afterwards, we’ll head to our welcome dinner to meet your fellow adventurers and toast to the journey ahead!

Meals included: Welcome Dinner

Day 2 - Teotihuacan Pyramids

This morning we’re heading to the legendary Teotihuacan, one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Americas. Climb the Pyramid of the Sun (it’s a proper workout!) and explore the Avenue of the Dead while our guide brings ancient Aztec history to life.

After lunch, we’ll dive into Mexico City’s historic centre on a walking tour, visiting the Zócalo, Metropolitan Cathedral, and soaking up the electric atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

Meals Included: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 3 - Coyoacán & Xochimilco

We’re off to the bohemian neighbourhood of Coyoacán for brunch. Cobblestone streets, colourful markets, and the former home of Frida Kahlo.

In the afternoon, it’s time for one of Mexico’s most unique experiences: the Xochimilco floating gardens.

We’ll board our own private trajinera (a brightly painted boat) and cruise through ancient canals while mariachi bands drift past and local vendors sell everything from tacos to tequila.

Meals included: Brunch

Day 4 - Oaxaca
Day 5 - Hierve el Agua & Textile Villages

Get ready for one of Mexico’s most stunning natural wonders! Hierve el Agua is a set of petrified waterfalls that cascade down the mountainside, creating natural infinity pools with views that’ll absolutely blow your mind.

On the way back, we’ll stop at a traditional textile village where local artisans still use ancient techniques to create beautiful woven goods. Perfect for picking up authentic souvenirs and we’ll also do some Mezcal tasting at a local farm!

Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 6 - Discovering Oaxaca!

This morning we’ll visit Monte Albán, the ancient Zapotec capital perched on a hilltop with panoramic valley views. The pyramids, ball courts, and carved stones are absolutely incredible.

In the afternoon, we’ll do a 2-hour walking tour to understand more about this colourful city and it’s markets. We’ll have lunch at Oaxaca’s incredible main market, where you can try traditional pan de muerto (bread of the dead) and other seasonal treats.

Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 7 Journey to Selina Cruz

It’s time for another 5-6 hours journey to take us to the Pacific Coast town of Salina Cruz, where we’ll settle in for the night to break up the journey.

We should have some free time to spend at the beach for few hours!

Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 8 - San Cristóbal de las Casas

We continue our journey through the stunning Chiapas region, arriving in San Cristóbal de las Casas in the late afternoon. This colonial mountain town is an absolute gem.

We’ll do an evening walking tour to get our bearings before finding a cosy spot for dinner.

Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 9 - San Cristóbal de las Casas

Today, we dive deeper into the local Tzotzil Maya culture with visits to indigenous villages surrounding San Cristóbal.

We’ll visit the famous San Juan Chamula church. A unique experience where traditional Mayan spiritual practices blend with Catholicism. The interior is covered in pine needles and candles, with healing ceremonies taking place throughout the day. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 10 - El Chiflón

Brace yourself for a full day of natural beauty! We’ll visit El Chiflón, a spectacular 70-meter waterfall where you can hike up alongside cascading turquoise pools, then head to the Lagunas de Montebello, a series of 59 stunning multicoloured lakes in a national park.

Swimming, hiking, boat rides – it’s a proper adventure day before we return to San Cristóbal.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Final Dinner

Day 11 - Departure Day Or Yucatan Add On

We say goodbye to those who ends their trip here. Airport transfer will be available to the nearest airport to San Cristóbal de las Casas.

For those who are extending, we’ll fly to Cancun this morning,  where we’ll enjoy a relaxed afternoon on the Caribbean coast.

We’ll transfer to Playa del Carmen for a well-deserved beach time and a night out in this buzzing coastal town!

Meals included: Breakfast

Optional Day 12 - Tulum

Morning visit to the stunning Tulum ruins – ancient Mayan temples perched on cliffs overlooking the turquoise Caribbean. Afterwards, we’ll swim in a magical cenote (underground sinkhole) before spending the afternoon at a beach club in Tulum.

Meals included: Breakfast & lunch

Optional Day 13 - Chichén Itzá

Full day trip to Chichén Itzá, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World! We’ll explore this massive archaeological site, visit the charming colonial town of Valladolid, and cool off in another beautiful cenote.

Time to say adiós! No airport trasnfers included but we can help you with the airport bus.

FAQ & Itinerary Note:

This itinerary, as always, is open to small changes depending on the weather, flights, etc. Fear not, if we have to make any adjustments, it will be to swap something out with an equally, if not better, experience!

Please note: this trip begins Mexico City and ends in San Cristóbal de las Casas or Tulum, if you opt in for the extension.

I'm ready! How do I book?

Ready for an unforgettable adventure in Mexico? Click the BOOK NOW button to head to our payment portal and secure your spot with a €750 deposit. The remaining balance will be divided into two equal payments, due 2 and 3 months before departure.

Need a custom payment plan? No problem! Reach out to us, and we’ll create a plan tailored to your needs. Remember, spots are booked on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t wait!

How many people are on the trip?

This trip requires a minimum number of guests to proceed, and this minimum must be met at least 4 months before departure to be guaranteed. If the minimum number of guests is not met by then, a full refund will be issued.

Expect to travel with 6-14 new friends!

Why are deposits non-refundable?

The deposit for your trip is non-refundable due to several important factors. Firstly, when you book a spot, we immediately begin the process of planning and preparing for your journey. This involves engaging staff who work diligently behind the scenes to ensure every aspect of your trip is meticulously organised. These preparations often involve upfront costs that are incurred from the moment your booking is confirmed. Additionally, by requiring a non-refundable deposit, we aim to ensure that all participants are committed to the trip.

We understand that plans can change, which is why we insist all travellers have trip insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances that might affect their ability to participate.

What about my other payments? Are they refundable?

All payments, except your deposit, are fully refundable three months prior to the departure date. After the three-month mark, any payments made are non-refundable. This is because we are usually unable to find a replacement at such short notice, and have contracts in place with our vendors that need to be fulfilled.

Again, we strongly recommend all travellers have travel insurance so that they can refund you should your plans change. At the end of the day, we are a small business, and we want nothing more than to continue showing our guests the world. We hope you understand the importance of adhering strictly to this policy.

How much money will I need for non-included meals, alcohol, and souvenirs?

Most meals are included in the itinerary, but you’ll likely want to grab snacks, street food, or extra meals along the way. For dinner, there is usually something for every budget! Street food costs €2-5, and a sit-down meal at a nice restaurant can cost €15-25. Mexican street food is both incredible and ridiculously affordable!

Alcohol: Expect to pay around €2–4 for local beer, €5–8 for mezcal or tequila shots, and €8–15 for cocktails or wine, depending on whether you’re at a local cantina or a tourist spot. Oaxaca is particularly brilliant for affordable mezcal tastings!

Souvenirs: Mexico is a treasure trove for handcrafted goods – colourful textiles from Oaxacan villages, traditional pottery, silver jewellery, Day of the Dead decorations, leather goods, and of course, mezcal and hot sauce to bring home. You can find beautiful pieces at every price point, from €5 market finds to investment pieces of indigenous art.

Budget tip: Bring cash in smaller denominations. Many markets and street vendors don’t accept cards, and you’ll get better deals when bargaining at artisan markets!

Overall, budget according to your spending habits, but Mexico offers brilliant value. You can eat and drink very well without breaking the bank!

How does tipping work?

To make things smooth and stress-free, we will be collecting a kitty of €50-100 at the beginning of the trip. This ensures all of our incredible on-the-ground vendors are taken care of, including guides, drivers, meals, and activities that are listed in your itinerary.

For any additional meals or personal expenses not included in the itinerary, you should expect to pay a separate tip. We will guide you on what is appropriate throughout the trip so you feel confident and comfortable.

How physically demanding is the trip?

This trip includes moderate walking, pyramid climbs, waterfall hikes, and some long travel days. A basic fitness level will help you enjoy everything fully, but it’s not overly strenuous. The optional Teotihuacan pyramid climb is the most challenging physical activity.

Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?

Absolutely! Mexican cuisine is incredibly diverse with plenty of vegetarian options. Please inform us of specific needs or allergies in advance, and we’ll work with restaurants and guides to accommodate you.

What if I want my own room?

We believe that rooming is one of the best parts of the experience. It feels a little like adult summer camp and has always been a highlight for our guests, with nothing but positive feedback in the past.

That being said, if you feel that sharing does not suit your travel style, we are happy to discuss the option of a single room supplement. Simply reach out to us at janetsgrouptrips@gmail.com and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What are the health and vaccination requirements?

There are no required vaccinations to enter Mexico. However, it’s always wise to be up-to-date with routine vaccinations. We recommend to consider vaccinations for MMR, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, and yellow fever (if travelling from a country with yellow fever risk). Please consult your healthcare provider for personalised advice.

Who’s leading the trip?

Janet and a local tour guide will be with you every step of the way.
